With a population of 4 million -- and using an estimated 2.7 billion plastic bags each year -- Los Angeles becomes the largest city in the U.S. to enact a ban and joins 47 other cities in California alone.

Protesters ask Edison to decommission San Onofre nuclear plant

California Fish and Game sues U.S. Army Corps over levee trees

Fracking Disclosure Gathers Steam Among Exxon, Chevron Shareholders
When proposed before, increased disclosure of the risks of hydraulic fracturing failed to receive enough support in the face of steadfast opposition from the companies' boards. But the issue has gathered steam in recent elections and experts expect even more support for increased disclosures at Exxon and Chevron's shareholder meetings, to be held May 30.
